Statement by the Hon. Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
Here at home, it’s time to show our fullest support!
Canadians are looking forward to supporting our top athletes as they compete in the world’s largest celebration of winter sport: the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Olympic Winter Games will take place from February 4 to 20, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games from March 4 to 13.
Team Canada athletes are inspirations and incredible role models to all Canadians, notably our youth. They have been training for years for this very moment. As the largest single contributor to sport in Canada, our government is proud to have supported Team Canada’s quest for excellence, especially throughout the pandemic.
To ensure athletes can dedicate their energy and focus solely on their performance, the Government of Canada has supported the efforts of the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee to ensure the safety and security of Team Canada during the Games.
As part of the Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations, funding was distributed to sport organizations, including National Sport Organizations, Multisport Service Organizations, and Canadian Sport Centres to help athletes prepare for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Through Sport Canada programs, Canadians contribute to the preparation, participation, and celebration of our country’s high-performance athletes before, during and after the Games.
Along with all Canadians from across the country, I look forward to sporting our red and white colours, celebrating the accomplishments of our athletes, and sending them our warmest support as they represent Canada and take on the world at the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Thank you for joining me in supporting our team. Go Canada Go!
