Beginning in 1890, when veterans from the Battle of Ridgeway formed a protest as they felt their contributions during the Fenian Raids were being overlooked, Decoration Day is now celebrated every June 2nd and honours all veterans across Canada. While official recognition for the sacrifices of our armed forces was eventually moved to November 11, many places, including Thorold, still mark both dates.
