The Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit for families wishing to add a secondary unit to their home for family members to live with them is now open.
Families are now able to claim a 15% tax credit up to $50,000 in renovation and construction costs, with a maximum benefit of $7,500.
This will help more Canadians maintain traditions of multiple generations living under the same roof and find a safe and affordable place to call home.
From day one, our government has been focused on making life more affordable for families across the country, including when it comes to housing costs. That’s why we’re making historic investments to put us on track to double housing construction in the next decade, temporarily banning foreign buyers, cracking down on unfair practices like house flipping, and delivering a $500 Canada Housing Benefit top-up payment to renters who need it most, when they need it most.
