It has been one year since Russia launched their brutal and unjustifiable invasion against Ukraine. As Ukrainians bravely defend their country and our shared values of peace, democracy, and human rights, Canada remains steadfast in our support of the government and people of Ukraine, and in our efforts to hold Russia accountable.
Today we are announcing additional measures to hold Russia accountable and support the people of Ukraine:
Our government is also protecting Canadian producers from competing against unfair foreign government price distortions by calling out Russian and Belarusian lies. This is on top of the additional support we have already provided, which can be found in the attached Ukraine Facts & Figures document. Canada has remained committed in our support for the people of Ukraine in their fight against Putin’s illegal war. We’ve imposed sanctions on more than 2,400 individuals and entities directly involved or complicit in Putin’s invasion and provided over $1 billion to Ukraine in military assistance to help them continue their fight for freedom. Since the beginning of 2022, Canada has committed over $5 billion in direct financial, military, humanitarian, and immigration assistance to Ukraine.
Canada continues to stand with Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. We will continue to work alongside our international partners to support the people of Ukraine and hold Putin accountable for his illegal invasion of Ukraine and the war crimes committed by his regime.
