A bigger Climate Action Incentive Rebates arrives
April 14, 2023
Today (April 14) Ontario residents will receive their first instalment of the Climate Action Incentive rebate for this year, which for a family of four is $244. And this is just one of the payments coming to you every 3 months, worth $976 total for the year for a family of four.
For a Family of four in Ontario, this is a $57 increase in each quarterly payment from last year.
This money will be delivered directly into the bank accounts of Ontario residents who are signed up to file their taxes electronically. Otherwise, you will receive a cheque in the mail a bit later.
This funding is one of four payments made throughout the year, and will help Ontarians with the affordability of the globally-inflated costs of groceries, child expenses and other life necessities.
This funding comes from the price on pollution our government has set nationally, which helps to fight climate change, while returning more money in the pockets of 8 our of 10 families.
Those living in rural areas will receive a 10% addition to the payment, which reflects rural residents’ more limited access to clean transportation options.
Canada is recognized internationally for our pollution pricing model. The Government of Canada does not keep any direct proceeds from carbon pollution pricing. All funds collected from it, go back directly into the provinces where they are collected. Approximately 90 per cent of direct proceeds are returned to residents of those provinces through Climate Action Incentive (CAI) payments. The other 10 per cent is used to support small businesses, farmers, and Indigenous groups.
