Our government understands that a potential labour disruption can be stressful for Canadians who depend on important government services, but are reminded that the Canada Revenue Agency will not be extending the tax return filing deadline due to a potential labour disruption.
A potential labour disruption will not prevent Canadians from filing their returns online or on paper by the deadline of May 1.
We encourage all Canadians to file their income and benefit returns electronically and as soon as possible to minimize disruptions due to a potential strike.
When circumstances beyond a Canadian’s control prevent them from meeting their tax obligations, the CRA may grant relief from penalty or interest. Canadians have to submit a request first, and it is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
We invite everyone to consult the CRA website for more details: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency.html
