Budget 2024 benefits Niagara- Together, we are building stronger communities.

Ottawa – April 17, 2024 – Vance Badawey, MP for Niagara Centre and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, is pleased with yesterday’s tabling of the 2024 Budget. “Housing healthcare, affordability, and economic incentives top my list of priorities that we advocated for that have been introduced in this budget,” stated Badawey. Budget 2024 lays out a bold strategy to unlock 3.87 million new homes by 2031. This includes a minimum of 2 million net new homes, on top of 1.87 million homes already expected to be built by 2031. Federal actions will support at least 1.2 million new homes, and the federal government is calling on all orders of government to build at least 800,000 more homes by 2031. The federal government’s plan provides incentives for all orders of government, as well as for private and non-profit sector partners, and will build more homes, make it easier to own or rent a home, and help Canadians who can’t afford a home. “South Niagara continues to work toward equitable healthcare for our residents,” added Badawey. “I continue to work with Welland. Port Colborne and Fort Erie to ensure the hospital and the two UCC’s are maintained with the services expected by the respective communities. This budget opens the door for the federal level of government to work with all stakeholders and participate in strengthening primary care services.” From universal public health care to Employment Insurance to strong, stable, funded pensions, like the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), there has always been an agreement that as Canadians, we will take care of our neighbours when they have the need. Since 2015, the government has invested in even more supports that help people get ahead, investments in Canada-wide child care, strengthening public health care, the Canada Child Benefit, the Canada Workers’ Benefit for lower-income workers, and more. Budget 2024 takes action to ensure Canada’s social safety net works for every generation, especially for Millennials and Gen Z. Badawey stated that “the economic incentives contained within Budget 2024 will increase our nation’s productivity and create good paying jobs. For Niagara, a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Supply Chain investment tax credit to support the EV supply chain and secure the future of Canada’s automotive industry will strengthen the growth of the Ports Niagara Multimodal Trade Corridor, an integral part of the Niagara Foreign Trade Zone, both of which we established a few years back. The (EV) Supply Chain investment tax credit will be a tool to attract EV investment that will become the future of the Niagara economy.” Contact: Keagan McNeil – 289-241-4594
